Burgundy Wine School offers for 2020 several short wine classes from One Hour Wine Classes to Eight Hour Wine Classes. The Private Classes take place in our Wine School, located 15, rue Bellecroix, 21200 Beaune from Monday to Friday and by appointment only. The Classes are designed for any Level, from Beginners to Advanced Wine Professionals. All Classes are Private ( no other guests beside you and me). Read below to find the detail of each class.

The Burgundy Basic Wine Class – One Hour in the classroom

The Burgundy Basics Wine Class

Duration: One Hour Wine Class in the ClassRoom

Description of The Burgundy Basics Wine Class: We will learn about the Five Subregions composing Burgundy and taste a sample from each of these places. We will learn about the geography of Burgundy, about the notions of Terroir, about the various classifications, about the climate and the vintage importance. We will taste wines from the various parts of the slope in order to understand the notions of Regional, Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru. The Burgundy Basics Wine Course offers a comparison tasting of minimum 8 different Burgundy Wines.

 

Two Hour Wine Class

Duration: Two Hours – in the ClassRoom

Public: From Beginners to Advanced Wine Professionals and From One Single Guest

Description of the Burgundy Details Wine Class :

During the Two Hours Class we will learn about the History of Burgundy, The Composing Subregions, The Various Wine Classifications, the Wine Producers, The notion of Terroir, The various Vintages and their impact on the taste of wines. We will understand the notions of Regional, Village, Premier and Grand Cru wines. We will discover the Wet and Sunny Vintages and how they shape a wine. We will understand our own likes and dislikes in order to find what we are looking for. The Wine Class starts with a blank piece of paper on which I will add notion by notion, drawing by drawing all the details of Burgundy Region and its Fabulous Wines. This drawing Wine Class is fun and interactive and takes about One Hour. The Next Hour we will taste wines from various locations. North of Burgundy next to South of Burgundy, in order to understand the Weather factor. Regional next to Grand Cru. Côte de Beaune next to Côte de Nuits. And many other related exercises. The Comparison tasting has a minimum of 12 wines from Regional to Grand Cru.

Exploring Burgundy Wine Class

Duration: Three Hours – 70% in the ClassRoom, 30 % in the Vineyards

Description of the Exploring Burgundy Wine Class :

We start at Burgundy Wine School’s office with one Hour of Drawings, learning all the theoretical details of Burgundy Region. History, Wine Classifications, Vintages, Vintage Charts, Terroir, Grape Flavour Profiles. After the class we visit 2 major locations in Côte de Beaune, like the Corton Hill and Pommard Village in order to see the Slopes, Understand the notions of Mid Slope, Middle of the MidSlope, Bottom and Top part of the MidSlope, Understand the notion of Combe and the character of the wines in their vicinity. Back to School, in the cellar, we do an extensive comparison tasting with a minimum of 15 wines from the 5 Subregions of Burgundy, from Regional to Grand Cru, From Various Parts of the Slope, From Various Wet and Sunny Vintages, from Hard and Soft Limestone, etc. Like all programs it is a Crash Course that is interactive and fun.

The Burgundy Vineyards Wine Class

Duration: Four Hours, 50% in the Classroom and 50% visiting the Vineyards

Description of The Burgundy Vineyards Wine Class:

Learning about the theoretical aspect of Burgundy, History, Geology, Classifications, Terroir, Vintages, Weather aspects. Breaking into detail all these notions in order to easily puzzle them up when looking at a wine. Understanding your own likes and dislikes. Understanding Balance in a Wine from your own perspective. Understanding classic vintage. Understanding the evolution of a wine. Understanding what young wine and enjoyable wine. Building Wine Charts. Building Vintage Charts. Reading Maps. Looking back into the history and understanding another vocabulary. Visits to vineyards. During this program we have the time to cover the entire mid slope of the Côte de Beaune, from Corton Hill to Chassagne Montrachet. Comparison tastings of the 5 Subregions of Burgundy. Tasting of a minimum of 20 wines from all levels of appellations, including Grand Cru.

2 Day Program

Description of The Two Day Burgundy Wine Class: 

This is a great opportunity to learn about the wines of Burgundy. I consider this to be the most complete course I do. Day One, 4 hours, mornings from 9 am to 1 pm, Côte de Beaune. Day Two, 4 Hours, Côte de Nuits. All aspects of the previous classes will be covered. We get the time to visit the entire Côte de Beaune, from Corton Hill to Chassagne Montrachet and see the location of the 8 Grand Crus. We get the time to visit the entire Côte de Nuits and see the 24 locations of the Grand Crus from here. A wide comparison tasting, a minimum of 30 different wines from the 5 subregions of Burgundy, all levels of quality and several grand crus.
